Budget & Basics – 3 (Pastry & Pies)

This is a course for beginners who want to cook better on a budget and learn the basics to become good home cooks.

We will show you some basics that will get you started and can adapt for several kinds of meals and how one dish can be used in many different ways.

Each week we will highlight one area of cookery over 6 weeks but at the end of each evening you will have mastered at least one dish you can take home.

For week 3 we focus on pastry and pies. Being limited for time with our evening sessions, we will only look at Shortcrust pastry and how to master this pastry technique. We will introduce techniques from weeks 1 & 2 to make a savoury and sweet pie.

For this evening we will do the following:

  1. Make shortcrust pastry using different fats (lard, butter and vegetable)
  2. Make a Chicken +/ or cheese and onion pie
  3. Make an Apple Pie
